Google Knowledge Graph provides a more contextual approach to search where results are based on the concept and user intent. This is a move away from keyword search where results are based only on the words submitted to the search query.
The knowledge Graph is presented as a Carousel at the top of the search page where image rich search results are presented to the researcher.
Example: a search for 'breeds of dog' returned the results shown in the image below.
In addition to the Carousel, Google provides targeted search results to the right of the organic search information.
Where applicable, the Knowledge Graph search results are localised to the users' geo-location.
